Via col vento [HD] (1939) in streaming su altadefinizione Nel 1861, alla vigilia della guerra civile americana , Scarlett O'Hara vive a Tara , la piantagione di cotone della sua famiglia in Georgia , con i suoi genitori, due sorelle e i loro numerosi schiavi. Scarlett scopre che Ashley Wilkes , che ama segretamente, deve essere sposata con sua cugina , Melanie Hamilton , e l'impegno verrà annunciato il giorno successivo in un barbecue a casa di Ashley, la vicina piantagione Twelve Oaks . Scarlett scopre che sua madre è appena morta di febbre tifoide e suo padre è diventato senile. Con Tara saccheggiata dalle truppe dell'Unione e campi incustoditi, Scarlett promette che farà qualsiasi cosa per la sopravvivenza della sua famiglia e di se stessa.
La produzione è stata difficile sin dall'inizio. Le riprese sono state ritardate di due anni a causa della determinazione di Selznick a garantire a Gable il ruolo di Rhett Butler e la "ricerca di Scarlett" ha portato a 1.400 donne intervistate per la parte. La sceneggiatura originale è stata scritta da Sidney Howard e ha subito molte revisioni da diversi scrittori nel tentativo di ridurlo a una lunghezza adeguata. Il regista originale, George Cukor , fu licenziato poco dopo l'inizio delle riprese e fu sostituito da Fleming, che a sua volta fu brevemente sostituito da Sam Wood mentre Fleming si prese un po 'di tempo libero a causa dell'esaurimento .
